The “Missionary Initiation” Topic examines what being a “missionary” really means and how being formed in the Christian faith enables us to share God’s peace and love.

Young Adult Anna Zaros shares a story of visiting the Philippines while working for a peace and justice project. The transformation she witnesses during a visit to a men’s prison takes place not only in those she was visiting but in herself as well, and allows her to expand her view of what it means to be a missionary. She reflects on the scripture and illumination “At the Last Trumpet” (1 Corinthians 15:50-55), considering God’s promise of transformation to have real meaning for her life.

William J. Cahoy, Ph.D, Dean of Saint John’s School of Theology·Seminary, looks more closely at the Christian understanding of mission. He breaks down our understanding into three main categories, and shares how transformation of ourselves can lead to transformation of the world.
